As a leader of a team, I'm sure you're frequently thinking about how to improve theway people work together. Their participation, collaboration, their demeanor, approachability, and level of comfort with each other.

As a leader of a team, I'm sure you're frequently thinking about how to improve theway people work together. Their participation, collaboration, their demeanor, approachability, and level of comfort with each other.

As a startup driving feedback, our customers have told us a few ways they're using PropFuel and feedback in general as a piece of a bigger picture.

Here are some ways our customers are driving greater staff/employee engagement:

1. PropDuster Award - One of our customers told me about something they're doing called thePropDuster Award. His goal is to get teams working together. As a result, at each of their 2-3 company-wide meetings per year, he awards each team member on the "most engaged" team with a gift card to a local coffee shop. He defines most engaged as the team with the most responses, props, +1's, etc... But, this could be defined any way you see fit.

2. Values and +1 Awards - Another client was commenting about how the recognition in PropFuelis great and that it's almost too great. A lot of people are giving out props and he was wondering if it's causing "prop inflation". I debated that a little bit suggesting that I've never met anyone that didn't like positive feedback, even if it is frequent. Ultimately, what he did to complement the Props, is created a higher level and less frequent series of awards for individuals to be handed out at their monthly team meetings. In his words, "We have 4 awards. 1 for each core value - Smart, Driven, Personal. and then we have an overarching "+1" award."

3. Inclusivity Begets Productivity - I have a friend named Dan that has embraced PropFuel as part of his consulting business, Braveshift. When I asked him to explain what he's doing with Braveshift, this is what he told me: "These are tribal times. Polarization in our society now infiltrates every workplace, degrading trust, collaboration and creativity. So today, productivity and the"bottom line" now depend on deliberate and sustained practices of inclusivity. BraveShift's teamwork program, The Strategy of Belonging, embeds a shared system of mindsets, skill sets and practices aimed at growing trust, openness and a collective sense of ownership that every CEO needs from people to maximize results." SO Braveshift to taking PropFuel and using it as one tool in a bigger solution to build stronger communication within the team.

4. HORIZONTAL MENTORING™ is an idea another friend created that allows those with people skills and experience to mentor across unit lines rather than vertically (or top to bottom). It lets those who can say, “I’ve been in this industry for a while and I’ve seen these issues even when they aren’t in my own area of expertise,” apply their know-how for the benefit of the company – and it allows for a free exchange of ideas while crossing generational gaps. My friend is Erin and her partner Judith run a consulting firm called Lubien Feinleib Intelligent Consulting.

Ultimately, PropFuel is a part of a bigger goal of not only capturing valuable feedback and solving business problems but also stimulating thought and discussion among your employees and between you and your customers or stakeholders.
