Another way to help your members

May 3, 2024

Help your members by giving them more opportunity to grow personally and professionally...

How, you ask? (It's the bold underlined sentence below if you don't want to play my reindeer games.)

I'll answer that. But first let me explain why it's so important. My friend Jay Dunbar helped me with this epiphany.

More than half of members of professional organizations say they joined for career or professional development. In fact, 89% of Millennials and 72% of GenXers are looking for some "career matching" from their professional associations.

Ok, so if you believe that, and I have no reason why you shouldn't, then here's HOW you help your members by giving them more opportunity to grow personally and professionally...

Guide them... Guide your members to find their way to professional development within your organization.

How do you guide members? (I know, it's like a Yoda-type of multi-layer answer. So annoying.)

Well, how does a counselor guide you through self exploration so you can solve your own problems? They ask questions. And so should you.

Start asking your members questions to understand them better.

Do you feel as though you're growing personally and professionally in your current position? (the answer will tell you clearly if you should even try to help them with job search, networking or learning opportunities)

What skills do you feel you need to improve in order to advance in your career? (there's an opportunity for selling them specific educational programs and conferences here)

Describe someone who would be a good mentor for you. (Ok, not a question, but close enough... and this might help you match your members in a mentoring program)

Ask questions. Help your members grow personally and professionally. That creates more value. Fewer people will leave. More will join.

PropFuel is a platform that helps associations build stronger relationships by asking questions and engaging members.

I'd love to show you how PropFuel can help you create more dynamic relationships by asking questions on a continuous basis, giving your constituents a voice, and therefore getting them more involved in the member experience. Set up a time to see a demo with me.
