Too many surveys - let's engage instead.

May 3, 2024

Recently, I went away with my family and towards the end of our trip, as I'm walking through the airport, I noticed the first of many surveys sitting in my inbox.

"If we could just get 15 minutes of your time, we would greatly appreciate your feedback."

I had 7 organizations ask me for 15 minutes of my time.  I'm no mathematician, but I'm pretty sure that's a half a day and one of my kids.

Do you think that's engaging? Is that how associations want to "engage" their members? I really hope not.

And on the other hand, I met with a prospect this week. A super nice person who referenced the "correspondence" their association sends out. They send TONS of emails with 30 things to click in each email: articles, links, conference registrations, pictures, videos, sponsorship promotions, etc... I suggested that you might be able to replace the word "correspondence" with "sh*t". Fortunately, she got my humor and laughed.

The point being that organizations are not quite sure how to "engage" their constituents right now.

Here's a couple ways to create an engaging 1-question checkin with your members in a series of campaigns. That's 1 question answered in an email.... either answer it or delete it. It gives people a place to share their thoughts. Create a new member engagement feedback campaigna student engagement feedback campaigna professional member feedback campaigna senior/life member feedback campaignan NPS campaigna strategic partner feedback campaigna career path feedback campaigna board/staff feedback and recognition campaignWe've been trained that we have a voice. You should be able to communicate with the organizations and people you admire.

Let's give your members a channel to communicate with you.
